Kayla McMillan’s artwork Child in the Wild – Stargazer has won the CPM Young Emerging Artist prize at this year’s Cossack Art Awards.

For 11 years, CPM has been a proud sponsor of the iconic Pilbara event which showcases around 300 pieces from across Australia each year, including many local Pilbara artists.

CPM General Manager Health and Safety Gary Rayson presented the award, which included $8,000 in prize money.

“For almost three decades, the Cossack Art Awards have continued to grow in size and reputation to become one of the country’s leading regional art prizes,” Gary said.

“CPM’s long-term partnership shared with the City of Karratha has provided this wonderful opportunity for the community to foster cultural expression.”

On this year’s judging panel were three renowned art affectionados - Australian artists Stormie Mills and Sam Leach and Curtin University’s John Curtin Gallery Manager Jane King.

The Cossack Art exhibition is open to the public from 21 July to 11 August – for more information, go to https://cossackartawards.com.au/public-program/
