CPM Trainee Field Assistant/Pit Technician Rhani Papae has been awarded a Women in Mining WA (WIMWA) Mentoring Programme scholarship by the WA Department of Communities.

Rhani is already making great strides in leadership and mentoring as a member of the Robe River Kuruma Youth Council where she assists with decision-making in her community, the Robe River Kuruma Aboriginal Corporation and ‘Women in Quarrying’ via the Institute of Quarrying Australia.

Rhani is also the Team Leader for her fellow trainees in CPM’s Traditional Owner Traineeship program, becoming the inaugural graduate by finishing her Certificate II in Surface Extraction well ahead of time.

“I really believe in mentoring and peer support, so I plan to be a mentor to other trainees in our Indigenous Peer Support Program at CPM,” Rhani said.

“I’m already unofficially a mentor to all my sister girls on site.”

Rhani’s excited about the WIMWA Mentoring Programme.

“Having a person outside of the workplace with industry knowledge as a mentor would be beneficial - they can give another perspective to everything and help me achieve my career goals,” Rhani explained.

CPM Manager – Learning and Development Jasmin Mackoski said Rhani’s active pursuit of professional development was an inspiration.

“She’s really taken up the opportunities at CPM with both hands – Rhani’s not only worked hard to complete her TO Traineeship and qualification with flying colours, she’s stepped up as the group’s Team Leader and now has her sights on being part of the Indigenous Peer Support Program,” Jasmin said.

“I’m so pleased Rhani will now have further professional support and opportunities through the WIMWA Mentoring Programme, she’s most deserving of this scholarship!”
